Prospect Park
Interstate RC&D is working with the City of Moline to assist with the renovation of Prospect Park. Interstate RC&D has provided the City of Moline with meeting facilitation, grant writing and strategic planning assistance Phase One and Phase Two have been completed. A celebration event was conducted on May 25, 2005 for completion of these Phases. Phase Three has now been completed and a celebration event was conducted on June 6, 2006.
Phase One - Excavating the 2-acre pond to a depth of ten feet, restoring a healthy habitat for fish and other wildlife, and shoreline stabilization and landscaping. Native grasses have been planted and park benches made of recycled material have been installed. This was completed the Fall of 2004.
Phase Two - Restoration of the park pavilion to its original appearance circa 1903 is complete. Restoration included painting the pavilion, repairing the cedar roof, installation of new wood floor, replacing the existing closed wood rail with an open rail, upgrading the restrooms, and upgrading the exterior lighting and landscape. The warming shelter has been refurbished to coordinate with the pavilion. This was completed the Spring of 2005.
Phase Three - Ha been completed and is the installation of a year-round 2 mile fitness/nature trail. Also included in this phase is a creation of an 18-hole disc golf course, installation of interpretive and educational signs, security lighting, drinking fountains, benches, picnic tables, flower gardens and landscaping, parking lot improvements and accessibility modifications.
This projects total cost was $1,247,500 for all three phases.
