Prescribed Burn Workshop

Interstate RC&D partnered with Rock Island County SWCD, Mercer County SWCD, Henry County SWCD, Scott County SWCD, Muscatine County SWCD, Blackhawk Hills RC&D, and the University of Illinois Extension Rock Island County and hosted a fall four-day prescribed burn workshop. This workshop was held on October 23 thru 26, 2006 at Black Hawk State Historical Site in Rock Island, Illinois. This workshop provided burn training and certification for forestry professionals, agency staff, and landowners for the management of forestland. Jack Pizzo, of Pizzo & Associates, provided the training to the 61 participants of the workshop.

The 3 objectives of this workshop are as follows:

Objective A - Provide National Wildfire Coordinating Group S130-S190 certification once training is completed

Objective B - Empower forestry professionals, agency staff, and landowners to manage private forestlands with prescribed burn plans.

Objective C - Establish a solid working relationship between forestry professionals, agency staff, and landowners.

Interstate RC&D secured a grant from IDNR to conduct this workshop. Nahant Marsh and the SWCD's are also contributors for this workshop.
