Mercer County SWCD Native Prairie Grass Drill
Interstate RC&D worked with the Mercer County SWCD to seek funding for a native prairie grass drill. The purpose of the drill is to assist landowners in planting native prairie grass and forbs for wildlife habitat establishment and improvement.
Mercer County SWCD with Interstate RC&D's assistance has submitted and received a grant from the US Fish and Wildlife Service.
Mercer County SWCD purchased a 10 foot Tye native prairie grass drill. In 2005 the drill has planted a total of 242 acres which include 83 acres in wildlife habitat, 96 acres for waterways, 14 acres of filter strips, 47 acres of hay land and 2 acres for wetland restoration.
