Greenhouse Grape Project This project was completed with a grant from the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), Division of Forest and Prairies, through Limestone Bluffs RC&D. Interstate RC&D worked closely with Jack Hull of Blue Grass, Iowa who has been working on this technique for several years. The project was designed to help educate producers and potential producers on how to propagate grapes from cuttings started in a greenhouse instead of the traditional method of planting them directly into a vineyard. Cuttings started in a greenhouse have the potential of producing grapes by the 2nd season instead of the normal 3-5 seasons. Jack Hull has grapevines in the vineyard that are producing grapes in their 2nd year from cuttings that were started in the greenhouse. Growing grapes and establishing a vineyard is a major investment of time and resources and requires a lot of guidance and information. The information and techniques for greenhouse grapes were complied into a booklet and power point presentation for developing and/or expanding a vineyard operation by utilizing the greenhouse concept. It is designed as a starting point for the future grape producer or an established vineyard operator looking to expand their business. The booklet and presentation cover 3 main points:
