Two-State Forestry Conference and Expo This event was held on September 8-10, 2005 at the River Center/Adler Theatre in Davenport, Iowa. This event was made possible with a grant from the United States Forest Service (USFS). Interstate RC&D has partnered with Blackhawk Hills RC&D; Geode RC&D; Limestone Bluffs RC&D and Iowa Valley RC&D and many other groups and organizations to conduct the Two-State Forestry Conference and Expo. This two-day event featured seminars on timber management, tree identification, log scaling and grading, prescribed burning, leased hunting and many more. There was also a trade show featuring equipment and supplies for the woodland owner and a lumber jack show along with fun activities for the whole family. Interstate RC&D was also awarded a grant from the Riverboat Development Authority for the lumber jack show. The Rock Island Regional Office of Education helped sponsor the children's activities on Friday, September 9, 2005. There was over 350 people in attendance for this 3 day event. The participants were able to visit several exhibitors and to see wood carving and wood turning up close. There was also 2 portable saw mills that were demonstrating log cutting. Thursday night we featured an Expo Kick Off with a preview of the expo and a lumber jack show. The Paul Bunyan Lumber Jack's helped in conducting a Celebrity Challenge where local TV and newspaper reporters and farm bureau manager competed against each other. Sandy the log rolling dog was also there putting on her show.
