ECO-CAMP

Interstate RC&D has helped to conduct a spring and fall two-day ECO-CAMP at Loud Thunder Forest Preserve in Illinois City, Illinois. Since October of 2000, more than 3900 students in Henry, Mercer and Rock Island Counties have participated in these camps. This program helps young students learn about soils, forestry management, ecosystems and water resources in an outdoor setting.

The spring camp is usually held in April and the fall camp is usually held in late September. The students are able to spend one day in an outdoor classroom doing hands-on activities and learning more about their surroundings.

Interstate RC&D has teamed up with Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR), Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), Rock Island County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), Henry County Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD), University of Illinois Extension of Rock Island County, Rock Island County Regional Office of Education and the Rock Island County Forest Preserve to assist in hosting these camps. Interstate RC&D also received funding from the US EPA that helped to keep this project an annual event.

This camp is for students in grades third through sixth. If your class or school would like to participate in this camp please contact our office by calling 309-764-1486 extension 4 or info@interstatercd.org.
